Bombay Sapphire

Bombay Sapphire

This film is an ode to creativity. I was able to portray the creative journey of three artists I admire in abstract fashion.
The iconic blue Gin brand Bombay wanted to create a campaign with authentic films that feature real artists and their work.

The concept was to take cues from each Artists portfolio and biography to create individual mini narratives. Each of their creative adventures is seen through an imaginative lens. This provided me with the dream opportunity to reach out to three of my favourite artists ...

Amber Cowan —

Amber Cowan curates discarded glass
objects, melts and transforms them into incredibly detailed new and unexpected compositions.

Maud Vantours —

Maud Vantours went from traditional illustration to using paper as a material to create colourful layered sculptures.

Artistic Struggle —

The goal was to make the artists temporary, whimsical sculptures themselves.

Cinematic Joy —

Big lights, camera crane, amazing DoP, fantastic production designer, strong contrasts, rich textures, graphic, balanced compositions. All the good stuff.

Physical Craft —

In camera > in computer! We kept it real on this one and used in camera effects instead of digital smoke and mirrors.

Maze of Mirrors —

We needed a device to graphically connect the three individual stories. The idea was that the mirrors work as reflections of the artist's thoughts, visually fragment, complete or multiply the early stages of the artwork; and over time the reduced amount of mirrors make space for the bigger, completed picture.
Also: Mirrors are really cool to play around with.
